The Old Byre is a Heritage Centre in the beautiful
Glen Bellart close to the picturesque village of Dervaig on the Isle of
Mull.
The Old Byre is a must for anyone
who would like to absorb the History of Mull & Iona in an effortless
manner! With two amazing ½ hour videos – one describing Mull’s history from the
‘Hunter Gatherers’, and the other about Mull’s abundant and varied wildlife – both on land and in the
waters around Mull. They are enjoyed by
all ages. Here you can learn so much about this beautiful Island.
Within the Museum we have 25 Miniature Dioramas (wee
stage scenes with everyone busy making or doing something including the
Beavers)! 6 Wildlife habitats of Mull,
photographic displays of the Wildflowers, Moths. Caterpillars &
Butterflies, Fungi & Mushrooms . We also have displays of Fish, the Geology
& the Shells found on our shores.This is an exhibition to fascinate all ages.
Our tearoom has a 40 year old reputation for scrumptious home baking - light meals are served throughout the day.
We serve delicious cakes, teas & coffees as well as lunches - the specialities being 'Crofters Soup' and Clootie Dumpling served hot with cream!
All our food is made on the premises from local ingredients wherever possible.
